Logitech-C920

The magic of the internet (which wizards rarely cast in fantasy battles) means I have penpals from all over the globe. While emails are frequently exchanged and a great deal of fun, it’s always good to gaze upon your loved ones in crystal clear HD. Logitech gets it, which is why they’ve upped the ante in the webcam stakes with their new Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920.

I’ve tested the C900 720p webcam which had great image quality and played nicely with Skype. The C920 bumps the spec up to full-HD 1080p video, with H.264 compression and a Carl Zeiss lens with autofocus. These all add up to make a real difference in call quality (providing your connections can handle it) and add to the “being there” quality that you want in a webcam.

“People are increasingly relying on video calling to maintain far flung connections,” said Todd Walker, brand manager at Logitech. “Whether chatting with friends, family or co-workers, they want to be seen at their best through a sharp, high-quality image. The Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 can provide just that as the first webcam to offer 1080p video calling, thanks to our collaboration with Skype.

The Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 is expected to be available in Europe beginning in January 2012 for a suggested retail price of £89.99.
