Assassin’s Creed games are great fun to play – racing across rooftops and breezing through a plot that feels like it’s from the mind of Jerry Bruckheimer. But they are also great to look at – the phrase sumptuous visual feast springs to mind. But it’s hard to slow down and appreciate the scenery (although I’d love a fast-paced action game that also had a “smell the roses” setting).
The newly released Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is set in the Caribbean and features wide open seas, tropical jungles, and bustling villages. Fortunately you can check all this out at your leisure in the The Art of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag from Titan Books. Rather than a collection of stills, the book is a detail walk through of the design choices and concept art that went into the look and feel of the game. It’s a really fascinating way of breaking down what’s going on in the background and the detail behind certain character choices and gives the art team a chance to “show their working”.
If you want to have a completely different video game scenario on your coffee table, Titan Books also have The Art of Battlefield 4.
Both are out now on Titan Books
